Nancy holds a Master’s degree with a focus on ceramics from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also taught ceramics for several years at the university level.

Nancy’s own children both attended our Preschool, and she has taught here for three years. She often brings her pottery wheel to the Preschool, extending the ways in which the children can work with clay, and helping them to understand the material in a purely tactile way. This year she hopes to continue exploring how children create challenges for themselves and test their abilities; drawing inspiration from Alfie Kohn’s work, she is also interested in paying attention to the language adults use with children, particularly the use of praise.
