In February, 3North incorporated the findings of the Master Plan and began work on the schematic drawings that will be the concept for our immediate building needs. The most pressing building needs were identified as eight new classrooms and a multipurpose assembly space. The general building layouts and surrounding spaces were configured for this First Phase of construction.
In April, 3North’s presentation of the schematic plans was met enthusiastically by the Building Committee and the architects were directed to move into the design development phase of the drawings. As we proceed through this portion of the design process, we will evaluate more specific components of the design including: building materials, sustainable green components and building systems. We will also begin to solicit input from contractors about the cost of our design.
The final phase of the design process will be to complete the construction documents. This will entail the complete set of plans and specifications that will be used to form a contract for the construction of the new building. This set of documents will detail everything from structural design elements down to the model number of the plumbing and lighting fixtures.
We are working on a very tight timetable for the completion of the design process. Our ambitious goal is to have the plans complete by mid-summer so that we can obtain permits and contracts and start construction in early fall of 2008. This should give us ample time to construct the new classrooms and have them ready for the opening of school in the fall of 2009.
We will keep this updated as we proceed through the design and construction process, so please check for our updates.
